The 7th Annual Teal Ribbon Golf Tournament, sponsored by the Texas Roadhouse, kicking off at Lakes East and Lakes West Golf Courses in Sun City, AZ was a resounding success. Over 225 golfers + many volunteers turned out on a beautiful day to raise awareness of ovarian cancer, remember those taken far too soon during a teal balloon launch, then hit the links for a fun morning of golf followed by silent auction bidding on exciting silent auctions including two Maui, HI condos, one week each, a Trust Package donated byJoAnn Regan, President, Financial Security Group of AZ, Inc. plus many overflowing raffle baskets that had our guests buying even more raffle tickets.
Following a delicious, hearty Texas Roadhouse, catered lunch, the crowd learned about current ovarian cancer research from Tracy E. Crane, Research Specialist, Sr., from the University of Arizona Cancer Center, Tucson, AZ. She discussed the clinical trial funds generated from our tournament support, the LIvES trial which studies the role diet and exercise may have in extending a period of remission for women with ovarian cancer. The trial is also known as GOG-0225, a Gynecologic Oncology Group trial.
The West Valley Ovarian Cancer Alliance was honored to present Ms. Crane with a check for $14,000, our projected donation. When all proceeds were accounted for, that amount increased to $17,000! This would not be possible without the dedication of our guests, our Board of Directors and donors who support our efforts.
Mark your calendars, the date has been set for the next charity Teal Ribbon Golf Tournament, February 11, 2016, so dust off those golf clubs and look for entry forms soon.
